The Meghamālā defines droṇa as a continuous rain for seven nights together (Shastri,p.298). Varāhamihira in his Samāsasaṃhitā (quoted by Bhaṭṭotpala on Bṛh.S., XXIII.2) refers to the system of measurement of rainfall as prevalent in Magadha, which seems to have been recognised as the standard one.
