Kauṭilya (AS, II. 24.7-8) says that a forecast of rainfall can be made by observing the position, motion and pregnancy of Jupiter (Bṛhaspati), the rise, setting and motion of Venus (Śukra), and the natural or unnatural aspect of the sun.
