A part of Śālihotra’s Aśvaśāstra (vide Apte, M.S), Jātakapari jātaka, Śukranīti and Jayadatta’s Aśvavaidyakam are now available in English translation and my observations are mainly based on these works. A symposium on ‘Veterinary Literature in Ancient India’, was also organised in 1986 (IJHS, 22(21), 93-169), which also serves as important source material.
