The Buddhist texts go long way in supplementing the history of the furniture of the period. The furniture items such as Āsandi, Miḍhi (bench), Pālliaṅka (throne), three-legged chairs, Mañca (seat or bed stead or couch), Vidalamañca, or Vettamañca (cane-seat), Kocca (cane-bottomed chairs), Pattakaṇḍolika (wicker stands), Bhojānaphalakas (tables), Pāda-pīṭhas (foot-stools), Bhisi (bolster), Bimbohaṇa (pillow) etc., are mentioned in the Vinaya texts and interestingly, many of these articles are represented in the sculptures and murals of the period under study.
