v1.c27.3
Bronson (1986) accepts that India might have made steel during the second century AD, but questions whether it was the celebrated wootz of the later period; whether wootz was a super-steel or merely carburized iron, and whether the literary references to Indian iron and steel should be accepted uncritically. Prakash (1989) commented on Bronson’s paper and emphasized on the antiquity of Iron Age in India; however, his comments and Bronson’s rejoinder (1989) do not shed any further light on the subject.
