PĀṆINI’S Aṣṭādhyāyī is a veritable store-house of information (Vasu, 1891) on Sanskrit language and ancient India. We learn quite a lot about minerals and metals in ancient India from Pāṇini, who illustrated his grammatical rules by referring to the words of a very great diversity including scientific and technical words (Katre, 1968; vide Appendix ‘C’).
