131 See Ca.Sū.11.23 and 32; Vi.8.49; Śā.1.16 and 4.6. The same six dhātus are acknowledged in Buddhist thought, where Caraka's cetanā is replaced by vijñāna. P.V. Sharma refers to Candrakīrti's commentary on Nāgārjuna's Mādhyamikaśāstra (see prakaraṇa 5: dhātupṛtakaṣā). The sixth element is vijñāna instead of cetanā in a quotation from the Garbhavakrāntisūtra in Vasubandhu's Abhidharmakośa (L. de la Vallée Poussin, 1971: I, 66; see A. Roṣu, 1978: 160; Th. Stcherbatsky, 1961: 31, n.100). See on the term ṣaḍdhātuka, also known from early Sāṃkhya: Jyotir Mitra (1982); A. Roṣu (1978): 147–148 and 160–161. See also another publication of P.V. Sharma (1989a: 18), where he points to glimpses of the ṣaḍdhātukapurūṣa in the Aitareyāraṇyaka (2.3.1); this text, however, mentions a fivefold division.
