The treatise is called after Bhela or Bheḍa,¹² one of the six pupils of Ātreya Punarvasu.¹³ Each of these pupils composed, according to the story related in the *Carakasaṃhitā*,¹⁴ a medical treatise, based on the words of their teacher.¹⁵
