Ṭoḍaramalla, Akbar’s finance minister, engaged a number of scholars of Benares to compile an encyclopaedic work. This huge encyclopaedia, the *Ṭoḍarānanda*, consists of twenty-two sections (saukhya),⁷⁷⁵ the last of which, the *Āyurvedasaukhya*,⁷⁷⁶ is concerned with medicine.
