The author was a minister (mantrivara) and preceptor (rājaguru) of Pratāparudradeva, who conferred on him the titles of kavipuṅgava and paṇḍitarāja; this king presented him with a white umbrella, called meghāḍambara,¹⁸⁸ decorated with four golden lions and a golden pitcher. Godāvara also bore the title of vājapeyayājin.¹⁸⁹
