The author of the Ānandakanda is unknown. 229 Some are of the opinion that it was composed by a follower of the Bhairava cult, because the treatise is said to have been expounded by Bhairava. 230 Others suppose the author to have been a resident of Śrīśaila, since this mountain and many sacred places in its vicinity are referred to in the Ānandakanda. 231
