467 Compare the long list of names in Hemacandra's Abhidhānacintāmaṇi (1237cd–1243ab in the edition of Bochtlingk and Rieu; tiryakkhaṇḍa 303cd–309ab in the edition of N. Śāstrī). Similarities between many of the names in Hemacandra's list and names for horses in Turkish dialects have been pointed out by H. Berger (1967); these etymologies are preferable to the Mongolian ones suggested by M. Mayrhofer (1960), according to C. Suneson (1984: 249).
