**Mahābhārata recited at the Sacrifice of Janamejaya.** The Mahābhārata itself composed by Kṛishṇa Dvaipāyana was fully recited from day to day by Vaiśāmpāyana at the sacrifice of Janamejaya, son of Parikshit, which was attended by thousands of learned Brahmins. Again, it was at the sacrifice of Śaunaka at Naimishāraṇya that the Mahābhārata was repeated by Ugraśravā Sauti. Thus the celebration of these royal sacrifices was the principal agency for the promulgation and popularization of original literary works of national interest and importance.
