The Mantras have a threefold meaning, (1) Spiritual (adhyātma), concerning Knowledge and Liberation (*jñāna* and *mukti*), (2) Etymological (Nairukta), concerning objective truths, and (3) Ritualistic (Yājñika), concerning Sacrifices. The *Yājñika* interpretation of Mantras is the subject of Pūrva-Mīmāṁsā, and the other two interpretations, of Uttara-Mīmāṁsā.
