The son of Naradeva of Dhārā in Mālava, Narapati wrote a Narapatijayacaryā = Svarodaya; according to the commentator, Harivamśa, on Narapatijayacaryā 1, 1–10, he wrote it at Aṇahilanagara during the reign of Ajayapāla, who was the Caulukya mahārāja from ca. 1174 to 1177:
