AL-KŪSHJĪ (AL-QŪSHJĪ), ʿALĀ AL-DĪN ʿALĪ IBN MUḤAMMAD (d. 15 December 1474) A collaborator with Ulugh Beg (1394–1449) at the observatory in Samarqand, al-Kūshjī wrote in Persian a Risālah dar hayʾat or Fārsī hayʾat that he dedicated to the Ottoman Sulṭān Muḥammad ibn Murād (1451–1481); he probably composed it at Istanbul, where he died on 15 December 1474. See C. A. Storey, Persian Literature, vol. 2, part 1, London 1958, pp. 75–77. The Risālah dar hayʾat appears to be the original of the anonymous Sanskrit treatise on Islamic astronomy entitled Hayatagrantha, composed in the seventeenth century. See D. Pingree [A4. 1979].
