The son of Shaykh Muḥammad Saʿīd al-ʿAlawī and the author of an Iʿjāz al-ḥisāb in A.H. 1072 = 27 August 1661/15 August 1662 (see C. A. Storey, Persian Literature, vol. 2, pt. 1, London 1958, p. 16), Muḥammad Amīn is reported to have made a Persian translation of the Līlāvatī of Bhāskara (b. 1114) in 1678.
