Nágárjuna as a contemporary and friend of king Sadváhana. The original in Sanskrit, entitled Suhrillekha, has not yet been recovered and probably been lost. Udyana in the Tibetan subscription is Bdye-Spyod=Sadváhana.† This Sadváhana is a prominent figure in the history of S. India. In ancient Sanskrit literature he is frequently spoken of as a patron of learning and there are several literary reminiscences associated with this name. ‡
