∗ Vide Wenzel : Journ. Pali Text Soc. (1886), p. 1. † S. C. Dás (l. c.) says : "Nágárjuna is said to have been a great friend of king De-Chye (i. e. Samkara) of S. India, whom he converted to Buddhism." Now De-Chye=Bdye-byed according to modern pronounciation. Dás is evidently in error in rendering De-Chye as Samkara (Wenzel). ‡ Cf.—Kámasútra of Vátsyáyana. कर्तर्या कुन्तलः शातकर्णिः सातवाहनो महादेवीं मलयवतीं [जघान]। Referring to a "new" MS. of Harshacharita in his possession Hall remarks—"for Sáliváhana I there find Sátaváhana"—Intro. to "Vásavadattá," p. 54, This by implication would suggest that the other MS. had the reading Sáliváhana.
