Bhattacharyya, on the other hand, holds that “the seeds of Tāntric Buddhism were already there in the original Buddhism in the form of *Mudrās*, *Mantras*, *Mandalas*, *Dhāraṇīs*, *Yoga*, and *Samādhi*, as a means to attain happiness and prosperity in this world.”² These elements, together with some of the changes that took place in Buddhism, from time to time, were responsible according to him, for the actual origin of Tāntrism.
