Mādhava was a member of the Nampūtiri family of Iñcakkāzhvā in Rāmamangalam in the Mūvāttupuzha Taluk (Dt. Kottayam). He composed his *Praśnasāra* in A.D. 1543, in 16 chapters, based on earlier works like the *Hora*, but incorporating in it numerous local practices. The work is historically significant for it provides the names of several contemporary astronomical and astrological authorities like Nīlakaṇṭha Somayājī of Keḷallūr, Parameśvaran Poṭṭi of Vāzha-māveli, Attimaṭṭam, Vākkaṭ, Paḷḷimaṭṭam, Mecceri, Koyikkara and Araṇappuram.²
