"snigdhasyāmalakāntiliptaviyato velladbalākā ghanā
vātāḥ śīkariṇaḥ payodasuhṛdāmānandakekāḥ kalāḥ /
kāmaṃ santu dṛḍhaṃ kaṭhorahṛdayo rāmo 'smi sarvaṃ sahe
vaidehī tu kathaṃ bhaviṣyati hahā hā devi dhīrā bhava" //

"The clouds are glossy, anointing the sky with dark luster, and the cranes flutter; / the breezes spray mist; sweet are the joyful cries of the clouds' friends. / Let them be, as they please! I am Rāma, with a thoroughly hardened heart, and I endure everything. / But how will Vaidehī fare? Alas, alas, my queen, be brave!"
