vīro bhayānaka-prāyo vīrābhāsa itīritaḥ |
adbhutaḥ karuṇāśleṣād adbhutābhāsa ucyate ||

“the heroic sentiment abounding in the fearful is declared to be a semblance of the heroic;
the marvelous sentiment, through the embrace of the pathetic, is called a semblance of the marvelous;”
