eka ṛkṣago ardham apahṛtya dadāti tu svaṃ try aṃśaṃ tri koṇa gṛhagaḥ smaragaḥ svara aṃśam/
pādaṃ phalasya caturasra gataḥ sa horas tv evaṃ paraspara gatāḥ paripācayanti//(vasantatilakā)

A planet situated in the same sign takes away half and gives [it to the other]; one in a trine gives a third of its own; one in the seventh house gives a seventh part;
one in a quadrate house gives a fourth of its result; and along with the horā, thus situated mutually, they bring about the ripening [of sub-periods].
