atha cāmaracakrāṇi
Now, the chowrie diagrammatic wheels.
7.7.1
ādau cakraṃ samālikhya chatratrayasuśobhanam ||
aśvinyādi nyasettatra saptaviṃśatibhāni ca ||
Having first drawn a diagrammatic wheel, very beautiful with three parasols, / one should place therein the twenty-seven lunar mansions beginning with Aśvinī:
7.7.2
aścinyādyaṃ maghādyaṃ ca mūlādyaṃ ca krameṇa ca ||
uttare pūrvadakṣe ca etacdatratrayaṃ matam ||
the one beginning with Aśvinī, the one beginning with Maghā, and the one beginning with Mūla, in order, / in the north, east, and south: this is considered the triad of parasols.
7.7.3
pratīcīmadhyerakhāgrādīśānāntaṃ hayādhipaḥ ||
āgreyāntaṃ narādhīśastanmadhye ca gajādhipaḥ ||
From the western midpoint of the line to the north-east is the Lord of Horses; / up to the south-east is the Lord of Men; and between them is the Lord of Elephants.
7.7.4
anyaseṣāṃ bhūbhūtāmṛkṣaṃ yatra cchatre vyavasthitam ||
tacchatraṃ tasya bhūpasya śubhāśubhaphalapagradam ||
In whichever parasol the lunar mansion of the other kings is situated, / that parasol bestows auspicious or inauspicious fruit upon that king.
7.7.5
cāmaraṃ kalaśaṃ vīṇā chatraṃ daṇḍaṃ patadgrahaḥ ||
āsanaṃ kīlakaṃ rajjurnava bhedāḥ prakīrtitāḥ ||
Chowrie, water-pot, lute, parasol, staff, spittoon, / seat, peg, and rope: nine divisions are declared.
7.5

[On the verse] 'ādau cakram…': clear. [On] 'aśvinyādyam…': The diagrammatic wheel consisting of nine lunar mansions from Aśvinī to Āśleṣā is to be placed in the northern direction. The diagrammatic wheel consisting of nine lunar mansions from Maghā to Jyeṣṭhā is to be placed in the eastern direction. Likewise, the diagrammatic wheel beginning with Mūla up to Revatī is to be placed in the south, in the southern direction. When this is done, the triad of parasols is formed. From the tip of the middle line of the west, based on the division of eastern and western directions made in the tortoise diagrammatic wheel, the rulers of the regions situated up to the north-east are to be understood as the Lords of Horses. Up to the south-east are the Lords of Men; likewise, from the south-east up to the west are to be understood as the Lords of Elephants. [On] 'anyeṣām…': In whichever parasol in the parasol diagrammatic wheel the lunar mansion of the other kings—the remaining kings—is situated, that parasol bestows auspicious or inauspicious fruit upon that king. [On] 'cāmaram…': very clear.
7.7.6
chatratraye sthitaḥ saurirbhagaṃ tasya vinirdiśet ||
phalaṃ ca cāmarādīnāṃ pratyekaṃ ca vadāmyaham ||
Saturn situated in the triad of parasols indicates defeat for him; / and I shall declare individually the fruit of the chowrie and the rest:
7.7.7
cāmare caṇḍatā vāyoranāvṛṣṭiśca jāyate ||
durbhikṣaṃ ca bhaveddhoraṃ prajāpīḍā na saṃśayaḥ ||
In the chowrie, fierceness of the wind and drought arise; / terrible famine occurs, and affliction of the subjects, without doubt.
7.7.7.p1

Lord of horses, lord of men, lord of elephants

When [Saturn] is positioned in the water-pot, there will be war; in battle and disease, great danger;
assault, downfall, and the like all arise—there is no doubt about this.
7.7.9
vīṇāsthenārkaputreṇa paṭṭarājñī vinaśyati ||
calacitto bhaverdrāṃjā bhayabhītā ca medinī ||
When the son of the Sun is positioned in the lute, the chief queen perishes;
the king becomes unsteady of mind, and the earth is stricken with terror.
7.7.10
yadā ṛkṣaṛye sauriśchatre daṇḍe patadgrahe ||
tadā tasya bhavedbhaṅgaślatrasyāpi na saṃśayaḥ ||
When Saturn is in the triad of lunar mansions—in the royal parasol, the staff, and the canopy—
then the destruction of that royal parasol of his also will take place, without a doubt.
7.7.11
āsanasya bhavennāśa āsanasthe śanaiścare ||
yuvarājakṣayaḥ kīle bandhanaṃ rajjusaṃsthite ||
When Saturn is situated in the seat, destruction of the seat will occur;
ruin of the crown prince [occurs] in the peg; imprisonment when positioned in the rope.
7.7.11-2
chatratraye iti | chatratraye chatre daṃḍe patadgrahe bhe yadā sauriḥ śanaiścaraḥ bhramati tadā tasya rājñaḥ chatrabhaṃgaṃ virdiśet | anyat spaṣṭam | cāmare iti | sugamam | kalaśasthe iti | sugamam | vīṇāsthenārkaputreṇa iti |

As for '[in] the triad of royal parasols': when Saturn, the slow-moving one, wanders in the triad of royal parasols—in the asterism of the royal parasol, the staff, and the canopy—then one should point out the destruction of the royal parasol of that king. The rest is clear. As for 'in the fly-whisk': it is easy to understand. As for 'when positioned in the water-pot': it is easy to understand. As for 'when the son of the Sun is positioned in the lute': it is clear. As for 'when...': it is clear. As for 'when positioned in the seat': it is clear.
7.7.12
saumyayuktoticārasthaḥ śaniruktaphalo nahi ||
vakragaḥ kūrasaṃyuktaḥ śaniruktaphalapradaḥ ||
Joined with a benefic or stationed in rapid motion, Saturn does not yield the stated result;
moving retrograde and conjoined with a malefic, Saturn bestows the stated result.
7.7.13
śanirākukujādityā yadā jīrvedusaṃyutāḥ ||
uttarādhīśarājñāṃ ca niścitaṃ chatrabhaṅgadāḥ ||
When Saturn, Rāhu, Mars, and the Sun are joined with Jupiter and the Moon,
they assuredly cause the destruction of the royal parasol for the kings who rule the north.
7.7.14
krūragrahacatuṣkaṃ ca budhacandreṇa saṃyutam ||
pūrvcchatravināśāya kathitaṃ pūrvasūribhiḥ ||
And the group of four malefic planets conjoined with Mercury and the Moon
is declared by ancient sages to cause the destruction of the eastern royal parasol.
7.7.15
evaṃ pāpacatuṣkaṃ ca yadā śukrendusaṃyutam ||
dakṣiṇādhipateśchatravināśo bhāṣito budhaiḥ ||
Likewise, when the group of four malefics is joined with Venus and the Moon,
the destruction of the royal parasol of the ruler of the south is declared by the wise.
7.7.16
evamanyeṣu rājyeṣu yatra yasya ca sambhavaḥ ||
uktagrahasamāyogācchatrabhaṅgaṃ vinirdiśet ||
Likewise in other kingdoms, wherever each combination may occur,
one should predict the destruction of the royal parasol from the conjunction of the specified planets.
7.7.16.p1
saumyayukta iti | saumyukto śubhaprahayukto yadi śaniḥ aticārasthaḥ svarāśibhogakālamatikranaya rāśyaṃtaraṃ gantukāmastadā uktaphaladātā na bhavati | cet vakragaḥ krūragraheṇa saṃyuktastadoktaphalapradaḥ śaniḥ syāt | anyatyaspaṣṭam ||
As for 'joined with a benefic': if Saturn, joined with a benefic, [that is,] conjoined with an auspicious planet, is situated in rapid motion—longing to enter another zodiacal sign, having transgressed the period of traversing its own zodiacal sign—then it does not become the giver of the stated result. If it moves retrograde and is conjoined with a malefic planet, then Saturn will be the bestower of the stated result. The rest is clear.
7.7.17
yāthā duṣṭaphalāḥ krūrāstathā saumyāḥ śubhapradā ||
krūrayukto budhaḥ krūraścandraḥ śubhayutaḥ śubhaḥ ||
Just as malefics produce wicked results, benefics bestow good results.
Mercury joined with a malefic is malefic; the Moon conjoined with an auspicious [planet] is auspicious.
7.7.18
yathā duṣṭaphalaḥ sauristathā saumyaphalo guruḥ ||
bhaumajñau gururāhū ca ravicandrau phale samau ||
Just as Saturn produces wicked results, so Jupiter produces benefic results;
Mars and Mercury, Jupiter and Rāhu, and the Sun and the Moon are equal in result.
7.7.19
yathā hānikarāḥ krūrāstathā saumyāḥ śubhaṅkarāḥ ||
krūrayukto bhavet krūraścandraḥ saumyayutaḥ śubhaḥ ||
Just as malefics cause harm, so benefics cause good;
joined with a malefic [the Moon] becomes malefic; the Moon conjoined with a benefic is benefic.
7.7.20
saumyakrūrā yadā chatre aṣṭāvekatra saṃsthitāḥ ||
chatrabhaṅgo bhavettaspa paracakrāgamena ca ||
When both benefics and malefics—eight [planets]—are situated together in the royal parasol,
the destruction of his royal parasol will occur, along with the approach of a hostile army.
7.20
yathā duṣṭaphalā iti | spaṣṭam ||
As for 'just as... wicked results': it is clear.
7.7.21
anyeṣāṃ bhūbhṛtāmṛkṣaṃ yatra yatra nṛpatraye ||
cāmarādyabhidhānena tasya yanāma jāyate ||
Wherever the lunar mansion of other earth-rulers falls within the triad of kings,
by virtue of the designation of the fly-whisk and so forth, whatever designation it acquires,
7.7.23
tattatphalaṃ tadā vācyamanyadeśamahīpateḥ ||
nṛpatitrayanāmraiva na vācyaṃ chatrajaṃ phalam ||
bhūpanāmarkṣago rāhuḥ keturvā yadi saṃsthitaḥ ||
chatrabhaṅgo bhavetṛtasya viṣadānena bhūpateḥ ||
one should then pronounce corresponding results for the sovereign of another realm;
the result arising from the royal parasol must not be declared solely from the names of the three kings.
If Rāhu or Ketu is situated in the king's name asterism,
the destruction of the royal parasol of that king will occur through the administration of poison.
7.7.24
mṛgayāṃ sāhasaṃ yātrāṃ duṣṭāśvagajavāhanam ||
vigrahaṃ ca tyajedrājā chatrasthaiḥ krūrakhecaraiḥ ||
Hunting, reckless acts, a military march, riding wicked horses or elephants,
and war should the king avoid when malefic planets are stationed in the royal parasol.
7.7.25
evaṃ jñātvā yadā rājā karoti grahaśāṃtikam ||
yaduktaṃ yāmale taṃtre śāntiḥ syāttena bhūpateḥ ||
When, knowing thus, the king performs the planetary pacification
which has been taught in the Yāmala Tantra, peace will thereby come to the king.
7.7.25.p1
iti narapatijayacaryāyāṃ svarodaye chatrakrāṇi samāptāni |
Thus ends the royal parasol diagrams in the Svarodaya of the Narapatijayacaryā.
7.7.25.p2
anyeṣām iti | iti | anyeṣāṃ bhūbhṛtāṃ rājñām ṛkṣaṃ nakṣatraṃ nṛpatraye aśvapatigajapatinarapatirājṛyatraye yatra yatra cāmarādyabhidhānena cāmaraṃ kalaśaṃ vīṇādau bhavati tasya tatsaṃjñopalakṣitaṃ nāma cāmarādisaṃjñā bhavati | tattaditi | tadā anyadeśamahīpateḥ tattatphalaṃ nāmānurūpaṃ phalamādiśet | yathā bharaṇīsthaḥ śaniḥ | kesyāpi aśvapatichatre rājño bharaṇī janmanakṣatraṃ vā nāmanakṣatraṃ kalaśasthaṃ tadā tadrājye yuddhaṃ samādiśet | nṛpatitrayanāmnaiva
As for 'of other...': wherever the asterism, the lunar mansion, of other earth-rulers, of kings, falls within the triad of kings—the three kingdoms of the lord of horses, the lord of elephants, and the lord of men—by virtue of the designation of the fly-whisk and so forth, in the fly-whisk, water-pot, lute, etc., it acquires a designation indicated by that term, namely the designation of fly-whisk, etc. As for 'that corresponding...': then one should indicate the corresponding result, a result conformable to the designation, for the sovereign of another realm. For example, Saturn stationed in Bharaṇī: if Bharaṇī is the birth asterism or the name asterism of any king under the royal parasol of the lord of horses, situated in the water-pot, then one should indicate war in that kingdom. 'Solely from the names of the three kings'—
7.25
pūrvoktanṛpatitrayacakraṃ kevalanāmnaiva chatrajaṃ phalaṃ na samādiśetṛ | bhūpeti | sugamam ||
—one should not indicate the result arising from the royal parasol solely from the name in the previously taught diagram of the three kings. As for 'king...': it is easy to understand.
