As in the appearance of silver on a mother-of-pearl,
Due to the cause of error,
One does not apply another quality,
Then, through seeing the entity,
All qualities are indeed seen;
Because error prevents certainty,
A proof is undertaken.
This is a summary verse.

If the entity is apprehended from inference too,
Because a single attribute is ascertained,
All attributes would be apprehended; but for exclusion (apoha),
This defect does not follow.
Therefore, the logical mark is proclaimed
To have exclusion as its object in that way.
Otherwise, if the subject possessing the attribute is established,
What other unestablished thing remains apart from it?
Whatever cognition regarding anything seen
Is a conceptual thought having a universal as its object,
Its domain is mere exclusion
Without superimposing another part.
Because certainty and the superimposing mind
Are in the nature of that which invalidates and that which is invalidated,
This is known as engaging with that which is
Free from superimposition.
However many superimposed parts there are,
In order to remove them, there are just that many
Ascertainments and words;
Hence they have different domains.
Otherwise, if a single entity
Were pervaded by a single word or cognition,
Other things would not be its object; therefore,
They would be synonyms.
According to those for whom the intellect apprehends a distinct object
Possessing various particulars,
If the identity that is inseparable from the capacities
Which are components aiding the various particulars
Apprehends all of that identity,
Which particular among those to be aided remains unascertained?

Because they are related to its identity,
If one is known, both are apprehended.

If the capacities aiding the attributes are different,
What are they to it? If
It does not aid them,
Then it would be an infinite regress.

If that which aids one is apprehended,
And when that is seen, another aid
Is not seen, therefore,
If that is apprehended, everything is apprehended.

If, in order to avert error,
Another is accepted even for what has been apprehended,

That is established as having exclusion as its object;
Other than that, it is similar to that as well.
