/ Because it is a common cause of all, / such a thing does not exist in the sensory faculty; / even if it differs, it is not different; / from what does 'this is this' come? / By this, the remainder has been explained. / If that entity does not exist, the distinct / cognition would also be non-different, / and other cognitions would be likewise. / It is not accepted that the action and the instrument / have different objects either. / If it is a single object, two objects do not exist; / they would not arise sequentially. / If cognition arose simultaneously, / the object of establishment and the instrument of establishment would not exist; / depending on that convention, / the aspects are posited as the object of establishment and the instrument of establishment. / Even if connected by all natures, / there would be no certainty / that some property is comprehended, / because the relation is without distinction. / Even if it is non-different, that from which it is different / is the pramāṇa of this. / It is not from a conditioned entity; if the entity of that / does not exist, that also cannot be posited. / If [it is asked], 'Is it not contradictory / that the action and the agent are one?'— / that is not true, / because different properties are accepted; / in reality, they are accepted as non-different. / All linguistic conventions of action and agent / abide in that way, / because they operate by superimposing / upon entities accepted as different. / Whatever is awareness of an object is self-awareness; / whatever is direct perception is this alone. / That by which it is awareness of an object / would become erroneous by such a [factor]. / But from what does this experience come? / This is an examination of reality. / By what do those minute particles / make such a coarse appearance? / Therefore, that is not the real object. / Even if it were, because it is erroneous, / it could not establish / the nature of the experience of that. / If being similar to that and arising from that / were the definition of experience, / then a cognition having a similar object / would immediately experience that which is similar. / 'This was seen, this was heard'— / that with respect to which the mind is certain, / if it is experienced by that, that by which / it is accepted to be its instrument— / the proximity of that appearance and seeing / must be examined. / Those
