The way it is conceptually constructed / does not exist in the ultimate sense: / individual instances do not recur, / and no recurring other is seen. / How could what is not distinct from cognition / follow another object? / Therefore, this conceptual construction apprehending an identical nature in the object is erroneous. / Whatever possesses a name and meaning, their mutual / difference is the seed of this [concept]. / In accomplishing a single purpose, such as cognising a single object, / some entities, though distinct, / are determined by their own nature, like sensory faculties and so forth. / For example, although certain medicines are different, / together or individually, / they are seen to pacify fever and so forth, / whereas others are not. / It is not by a universal, because there is no difference: / for even though their fields and so on are distinct, / it would absurdly follow that there is no difference, / and also because an enduring entity cannot benefit. / Conceptual cognition apprehending that nature, / even without an object, resembles having that object; / arising as the ultimate differentiation / from objects that do not have that effect, / in it, the appearance of an intrinsic nature as external, / as one, and as excluded from others, / is not reality, because it lacks parts to be analysed. / Those objects existing in cognition / have the nature of exclusion in this way; / therefore, as if non-distinct, / they also appear as excluded from others; there, cognition and speech, / which have the universal / and co-reference as their domain, / expand linguistic conventions concerning false objects. / All those [conventions] of functional entities / rely on mutual non-existence; / therefore, that which has exclusion of others as its object / and which has a relation with functional entities / is the basis for obtaining real entities, / just as inference has been explained. / Although alike in being erroneous, it does not occur from the other, / like a jewel from the light of a lamp. / There, even many [entities] possessing a single effect, / having as their basis what is other than those not having that effect, / cause conventional usage to proceed as a unity / by means of speech and cognition. / Likewise, even a single entity produces many [effects]; / in order to fully indicate its entities, / from objects that do not have that effect,
