'Good men! In the past, immeasurable, boundless, inconceivable asaṃkhyeya kalpas ago, at that time there was a Buddha named Candrasūryapradīpa, Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, Vidyācaraṇasampanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara, Puruṣadamyasārathi, Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇām, Buddha, Bhagavat. He preached the true Dharma: good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, its meaning profound and far-reaching, its words subtle and clever, pure and unadulterated, complete with the marks of pure and clean brahma-conduct. For those who sought to be śrāvakas, he preached the Dharma conforming to the Four Truths, to cross over birth, aging, sickness, and death, reaching ultimate nirvāṇa; for those who sought to be pratyekabuddhas, he preached the Dharma conforming to the twelve causes and conditions; for the bodhisattvas, he preached conforming to the six pāramitās, causing them to attain anuttarā samyaksambodhi and accomplish all-knowledge.
