"Recite the spell three times, knot eight strands of eight colours into four knots, and tie it to both feet. The power of this dhāraṇī spell can cause a hundred Jambudvīpas, a thousand Jambudvīpas, or ten thousand Jambudvīpas to quake in six ways; it can accomplish this across the entire realm of a Buddha. When the kings therein govern the people and resources without moderation, thereby causing neighboring countries to raise armies and battle each other, and devas and nāgas to be enraged with unseasonable droughts and floods: the king at that time should reprove himself, cultivate virtue, bestow kindness upon all under heaven, show leniency toward the people and resources, promote good, abandon evil, be generous to sentient beings, repent with a sense of shame, and make a new start with the people. From then on, day and night, the myriad evils will all cease and all goods will assemble, devas and nāgas will rejoice, the rains will fall in season, the five grains will ripen, and epidemic qi will be extinguished. The king at that time should read and recite this dhāraṇī three times every day, and his wishes will be fulfilled, real and not in vain. What I, Bodhisattva Śākyamālin, have spoken is like this, entrusting these matters to kings."
