"I, Suvikrāntagāmin Bodhisattva, have now come from the northern realm of the Buddha Śāntacandraghoṣa. In this Sahā World, the Buddha's Dharma is on the verge of extinction; people commit many evils, greedily cling to gain and offerings, and criticize one another; there is no righteousness between ruler and minister, father and son, nor is there propriety between teacher and disciple. The five turbidities boil over and the three poisons rage; this is all because in previous lives they did not cultivate virtuous conduct and accumulated many evil habits. Having now obtained this body, though they have received a human body, their minds are like those of beasts and rākṣasa demons—a human body with an animal's mind, outwardly appearing as humans. Alas, great suffering! In the final era of a thousand years, among them there may be one or two sentient beings who have strayed and fallen into the lower stream. It is indeed out of pity for these sentient beings [that I come]. I now wish to speak a spell to rescue and assist them, so that their original practice may be restored as before. There is a spell named Yunruomidou (in the language of Jin: 'uproots the roots of practitioners' sins and defilements, rubbing, washing, and wiping them clean to make them fresh and white').
