I, the Bodhisattva Ākāśagarbha, delight to speak of the four matters concerning a bodhisattva-mahāsattva's pure, wondrous practices for cultivating a pure land. What are the four? First, diminishing oneself to benefit others and rescuing all sentient beings; second, not giving rise to sorrow or grief in gain, decline, blame, or praise; third, being chaste and free from lust, with pure moral conduct like a white lotus; fourth, when I attain buddhahood in a future age, may all sentient beings in my land accomplish wondrous practices so that humans and devas are indistinguishable. These are the bodhisattva's pure, wondrous practices for adorning a pure land.
