2.80

都摩波利揵椎有五事：一者當會、二者常會讀經、三者布薩、四者會僧飯、五者一切非常。復有五事：一者撾揵椎時當先視早晚；二者常當報上座；三者當復待檀越視般泥僧具未；四者當可眾人意；五者當次僧坐處，不得數起僧。

The chief vihārapāla's [striking of] the gaṇḍī has five occasions: first, when assembling; second, when regularly assembling to recite scriptures; third, for poṣadha; fourth, for assembling the saṅgha for meals; fifth, for any emergency. There are further five matters: first, when striking the gaṇḍī, one must first check whether it is early or late; second, one must always inform the sthavira; third, one must also wait for the dānapatis and check whether the resident saṅgha is complete; fourth, one must please the saṅgha's mind; fifth, one must follow the order of the saṅgha's seating and not repeatedly make the saṅgha rise.
