1.43

「爾時大王即入宮中，而自思念：『我今宜應歸投他國。』復自思惟：『向於鄰國而有兩道：一道行滿足七日，乃到他國，一道經由十四日。』即便盛七日道粮，微服尋出。去到城外，而便還入宮中，呼須闍提太子，抱著膝上，目不暫捨，粗復驚起，而復還坐。

"At that time, the great king immediately entered the palace and thought to himself: 'I ought now to seek refuge in another state.' Again he reflected: 'Heading toward the neighboring state, there are two routes: along one route, traveling a full seven days, one reaches the other state; along the other route, it takes fourteen days.' He then packed seven days' travel provisions, put on plain clothes, and quickly went out. Going beyond the city walls, he then turned back into the palace, called Crown Prince Sujāti, took him into his lap, gazed at him without turning away for a moment, suddenly started up in alarm, and then sat down again."
