「爾時，父王語太子言：『不逆汝意，欲願何等，便速說之。』須闍提言：『父母今者，為愍子故，可日日持刀就子身上，割三斤肉，分作三分，二分奉上父母，一分還自食之，以續身命。』

"At that time, the father king said to the crown prince: 'I will not go against your wish. Whatever boon you desire, speak it quickly.' Sujāti said: 'Now, out of pity for your son, my parents may daily take a knife to your son's body and cut three pounds of flesh, dividing it into three portions: two portions to offer to my parents, and one portion for me to eat myself to sustain my life.'"
