5.52

「爾時阿難入白佛言：『世尊！今欲從佛啟請一願。』佛言：『聽汝說之。』阿難白佛言：『憍曇彌母人者，乳哺養育如來色身。至今得佛，依因母人之所成立。母人於如來有大恩分。如來猶尚聽於一切眾生入佛法中，況於母人而不聽許？』

"At that time, Ānanda entered and said to the Buddha: 'Bhagavat! I now wish to make one request of the Buddha.' The Buddha said: 'I permit you to speak it.' Ānanda said to the Buddha: 'The venerable lady Gautamī nursed and reared the Tathāgata's physical body. Up to his attaining buddhahood now, it was established by relying on this lady. She has a great share of kindness toward the Tathāgata. The Tathāgata still permits all sentient beings to enter into the Buddha-Dharma; how much more so this lady—could she not be granted permission?'
