5.51

「爾時阿難即問我言：『母人何故憂愁如此？』我時即報侍者阿難：『欲求出家，修行佛法，三請如來，如來不許。以是因緣，我憂愁耳。』爾時阿難即報我言：『母人莫愁。我當啟請如來，使母人得入佛法。』憍曇彌聞是語已，心大歡喜。

"At that time, Ānanda asked me: 'Mother, why are you so sorrowful as this?' I then replied to the attendant Ānanda: 'Wishing to seek to leave household life and cultivate the Buddha-Dharma, I requested the Tathāgata three times, but the Tathāgata would not grant permission. For this reason, I am sorrowful, that is all.' At that time, Ānanda replied to me, saying: 'Mother, do not sorrow. I shall beseech the Tathāgata to allow you, Mother, to enter the Buddha-Dharma.' Having heard these words, Gautamī was filled with great joy.
