5.6

爾時舍利弗說如是等百千偈，讚歎如來已，頭面禮足，遶百千匝，告諸大眾、諸天龍、鬼神、人及非人：「諸善男子！世間虛空，怪哉！怪哉！世間虛空，苦哉！苦哉！世間眼滅，痛哉！痛哉！妙寶法橋，今當碎壞；無上道樹，今當摧折；妙寶勝幢，今當傾倒；無上佛日，沒大涅槃山。」一切大眾聞是語已，心驚毛竪，即大恐怖。日無精光，諸山崩落，地為大動。

At that time, after Śāriputra had praised the Tathāgata with hundreds of thousands of such verses, he bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him hundreds of thousands of times, and said to the great assembly, the devas, nāgas, ghosts and spirits, humans, and non-humans: "Good sons! The world has become an empty void—how strange! How strange! The world has become an empty void—how bitter! How bitter! The eye of the world is extinguished—how painful! How painful! The wondrous jewel Dharma bridge will now be broken and destroyed; the unexcelled Bodhi-tree will now be snapped; the wondrous jewel victory banner will now topple; the unexcelled Buddha sun sets behind the great mountain of nirvāṇa!" When the entire great assembly heard these words, their hair stood on end in shock, and they were seized with great terror. The sun lost its bright radiance, the mountains collapsed, and the earth shook violently.
