"At that time, Pāpamitra, with hands and feet in handcuffs and fetters, and neck in a cangue and chain, went to see Kalyāṇamitra. Seeing him like this, the elder brother said to their parents, 'Please remove the cangue and chain for my younger brother.' After the cangue and chain were removed, he immediately stepped forward and embraced him, gently coaxing him and asking in a soft voice, 'Have you been exceedingly weary and afflicted? Where is my precious jewel that you took?' When he had asked thus three times, [Pāpamitra] finally replied, 'It is buried in the earth in such-and-such a place.' Prince Kalyāṇamitra retrieved the precious jewel, went before his parents, knelt down, burned exquisite incense, and immediately made an oath, saying: 'If this precious jewel is a wish-fulfilling jewel, may both of my parents' eyes become clear and bright as before.' Having made this vow, they were immediately restored. His parents were able to see their son; they leaped for joy, their rejoicing and good fortune boundless.
