論曰：無始無明攝持煩惱令得住止，譬如諸種持隱顯子，是故名為子藏住地。本業契經中作如是說：子子種藏，譬如天網故。何因緣故皆名住地？字義差別其相云何？頌曰：

The treatise says: Beginningless avidyā maintains and upholds the defilements, causing them to abide, just as seeds hold latent and manifest sprouts; therefore it is called the stage of the receptacle of seeds. As is stated in the Benye jing: The storehouse of seeds of seeds is like the heavenly net. For what reason are all called 'stages' (vāsabhūmi)? What are their characteristics according to the distinct meanings of the characters? The verse says:
