釋摩訶衍論 7.18

7.18

已說一切修行根本門，次說制伏惡業不生門。此門為明何義？為欲顯示行者當發起慚愧等清淨心品，防止一切無量惡作，漸漸損滅不令增長故。如本二者能止方便，謂慚愧悔過能止一切惡法不令增長故。以隨順法性離諸過故者，總結其緣。

Having explained the portal of the foundation of all practices, next is explained the portal of subduing evil karma so it does not arise. What meaning does this portal clarify? It is intended to show that the practitioner should give rise to pure mental states such as shame and remorse, preventing all immeasurable evil actions, gradually diminishing and extinguishing them so they are not allowed to increase. Thus the original [text] states: 'Second, the skillful means of being able to prevent, which means that shame, remorse, and repenting transgressions can prevent all evil dharmas and not allow them to increase.' As for 'because of according with the nature of dharmas and being free from all faults,' this summarizes its conditions.
