Commentary: Vasubandhu states that this refutes the second doubt. That is, there is a doubt that says: "It was previously said that a bodhisattva does not see those as sentient beings, does not see myself as a bodhisattva, and does not see a pure Buddha realm. Why is this? Is it that because dharmas do not exist, one does not see them, or do the Buddhas of themselves not see?" Now, this text has two parts: first, clarifying that the Buddha has the capacity to see, and thus speaking of the five kinds of eyes; next, from "Just as in the sands of the Ganges..." downward, clarifying what is seen. In the former, the five eyes constitute five sections; in each, first the Buddha asks, and next Subhūti replies; this is the first, clarifying the possession of the physical eye.
