2.96

一者、破謗無菩薩故。謂作是念：「實無有法發菩提心者，是則無菩薩，云何如來燃燈佛所行菩薩行？」如經言「如來於燃燈佛所」等。

First, it refutes the slander that there are no bodhisattvas. That is, someone thinks: 'If in reality there is no dharma that generates the bodhicitta, then there are no bodhisattvas; how could the Tathāgata have practiced the bodhisattva path in the presence of Dīpaṃkara Buddha?' as the sūtra says: 'the Tathāgata, in the presence of Dīpaṃkara Buddha,' and so forth.
