2.97

二者、為除謗無諸佛故。論云：「若無菩薩者，是誰成佛？是則諸佛亦無也。」故論云：「若無菩薩，即無諸佛。」有如是謗，謂一向無諸佛也。如經言「如來者，即諸法如義」等。

Second, it is to eliminate the slander that there are no Buddhas. The treatise says: 'If there are no bodhisattvas, who becomes a Buddha? In that case, there would also be no Buddhas.' Therefore the treatise says: 'If there are no bodhisattvas, then there are no Buddhas.' There is such a slander, claiming that there are unequivocally no Buddhas, as the sūtra says: '"Tathāgata" means the reality of all dharmas,' and so forth.
