Question: "Although the sūtra text resembles what came before, the intent of the question is completely different. Its intent is: 'If a person gives rise to the mind [set on bodhi], there is no self; who is it that subdues their mind?'" Reciprocating as stated above, there is definitely no self. The sūtra's intent is: if a person has already given rise to the mind of bodhi, they should give rise to the thought of completely delivering all sentient beings, yet must not give rise to the thought that there are sentient beings to be delivered, nor may they give rise to the thought that 'I am able to deliver them.' Once thoughts do not arise, there is no self; being without a self is precisely what is called a bodhisattva.
