無色等相者。釋無實也。即顯菩提無色聲等相。然則但無實色等相，而不無於假相，故經但言無實，不言全無也。

"Free from characteristics such as form" explains "not real." That is, it reveals that bodhi is free from characteristics such as form and sound. Yet it is only free from real characteristics such as form, not devoid of provisional characteristics; therefore the sūtra only says "not real," not "entirely non-existent."
