「須菩提！菩薩亦如是，若作是言：『我當滅度無量眾生。』則不名菩薩。何以故？須菩提！實無有法名為菩薩。是故，佛說一切法無我、無人、無眾生、無壽者。須菩提！若菩薩作是言：『我當莊嚴佛土。』是不名菩薩。何以故？如來說莊嚴佛土者即非莊嚴，是名莊嚴。須菩提！若菩薩通達無我法者，如來說名真是菩薩。」

"Subhūti! A bodhisattva is also like this: if they make the statement, 'I shall bring immeasurable sentient beings to final extinction,' they are not called a bodhisattva. Why is this? Subhūti! Truly there is no dharma called a bodhisattva. For this reason the Buddha says that all dharmas are devoid of a self, devoid of a person, devoid of a sentient being, and devoid of a life-span. Subhūti! If a bodhisattva makes the statement, 'I shall adorn the Buddha lands,' they are not called a bodhisattva. Why is this? The Tathāgata explains that what is called adorning Buddha lands is not an adornment; this is called an adornment. Subhūti! If a bodhisattva thoroughly realizes the dharma of non-self, the Tathāgata explains that they are truly called a bodhisattva."
