From "good son" onward is the fifth major section, the comparative assessment, which has two parts: first, the direct comparative assessment; second, from "I now" onward, praising the benefit of the teaching. First, regarding the comparative assessment: praising the merit spoken by Moonlight as being like the water of the great ocean, while what a daśabhūmi bodhisattva speaks is like a drop in the ocean. Another interpretation says: this is not so; what Moonlight spoke is like a single drop in the ocean, and what a daśabhūmi bodhisattva speaks is like the water of the great ocean. Because the latter is superior, the sūtra says that among hundreds of thousands of koṭis of parts of this merit spoken by consecrated bodhisattvas, what the king has spoken is like a drop in the ocean, falling short of what a daśabhūmi bodhisattva speaks, which is like the great ocean. In the second part on the benefits, there are three: first, from "I now" onward, drawing on what Śākyamuni spoke to explain that Moonlight's exposition can truly benefit sentient beings; second, from "past, future, and present" onward, drawing on the confirmation of the buddhas of the three times; third, from "three ranks of the worthy" onward, drawing on the forty worthy and noble ones who praise the merit of Moonlight's partial meaning. The comparative assessment is concluded.
