The questioner further says: "If it is 'my births have been exhausted; I will not receive further existence,' it could equally be said to take myself as object, and the knowledge of cessation is possessed by me." The commentator says: "This knowledge of the truth of cessation has two meanings, and therefore does not serve as the substance of the cart. First, it takes others' cessation as object, which is taking the truth of cessation throughout the world as object; second, it is an active knowledge, which means that when seeing the truth of cessation, it can sever the fetters and propensities—it does not necessarily arise by taking the fruition as object. Now the knowledge of exhaustion completely establishes both meanings: it solely takes the self as object and does not take others as object; it exists at the time of the non-learner, and is not an actively functioning knowledge."
