From “giving rise to a rare mind” onwards is the third [point], directly explaining their rejoicing. From “immediately rose from their seats” down to “gazing up at the Honoured Countenance” is the second, in which the scriptural redactor enumerates their external bodily gestures of reverence. Within the second [section], the words of direct assimilation, there are two [parts]: first, from “and addressed the Buddha, saying” down through the seventy-three and a half lines of verse, directly assimilating and understanding the meaning of opening the three and revealing the One from the burning house above down to the “Expedient Means Chapter”. Second, from “The World-Honoured One’s great kindness” onwards, there are thirteen lines of verse explaining that this understanding came from the Buddha, and therefore praising the Buddha’s kindness as deep and difficult to repay, so as to conclude their assimilation and understanding. Furthermore, each of these two sections is divided into two; setting aside for now the praise of the Buddha’s kindness as deep and difficult to repay, when we reach that point it will be further divided.
